Do you know what $12.99, $25.99, $29.99 and $39.99 have in common? It’s the price you pay for spools of 1,450 yards of 10-pound test Cajun Red Lightnin’,  240 yards of Lake Fork Trophy Lures Fluorohybrid 25-pound test fishing line, 300 yards of 20-pound TUF Line XP Fishing line and 3000 yards of Silver Thread Excalibur copolymer 17-pound test fishing line. Premium grade fishing line is costly. Way too costly to be putting on wrong.

When it came to putting fishing line on in my house it was whoever was around became the line spool dispenser or spooling station. A pencil, pen or fingers were used to hold tension on the fishing line spool as I reel line onto the reel. This was only convenient when someone could hold the fishing line spool.

A EZ Line Spool Dispenser eliminates having to enlist the assistance of others to hold the fishing line spool; in addition to keeping even tension on the fishing line as it is loaded onto the reel. The EZ Line Spool Dispenser is constructed from 6061-T6 anodized marine grad aluminum that will prevent the line dispenser from corroding.

Other features of the EZ Line Spool Dispenser include a four suction cup mount base that will stick to any nonporous surface. This allows the EZ Line Spool Dispenser to be mounted almost anywhere in a vertically, horizontally or upside down position. For a stationary mount, the EZ Line Spool Dispenser has pre-drilled holes in the base that allows the base to attach with screws.

The EZ Line Spool Dispenser (www.ezlinedispenser.com) is shaped like a question mark allowing any size fishing line spools even large one pound spools of line to be hung. A thumb screw holds the fishing spool in place. It also lets anglers change fishing line spools quickly. Tension to hold the fishing line spools is applied by a specially designed compression spring.

EZ_Line_DispenserWhen it comes to fishing there are three commonly used reels. They are a spincast reel, spinning reel and baitcaster. All of them are built differently, but have the same purpose to hold line and release line when casting.

The spincast reel is commonly used by anglers with little experience or dexterity. The spool that holds the line is designed similar to a spinning reel. Unlike a spinning reel, the entire spool is enclosed. This makes line management easier especially for novice anglers.

Prepare a spincast, spinning and baitcast reel by taking off all the old line. When taking off old line check the reel for any mechanical issues. Address any mechanical issues before putting on any new line; in addition to wiping off the dirt and gunk from the reel. Once all the old fishing line is off it’s time to spool the new line on the reel.

Test Application Developer at Quantum Fishing, Joe Davis said, “It’s crucial that fishing line be put on correctly and that goes for spincast reels like the Zebco 33, spinning reels like the Quantum EXO PT or baitcasting reels like our Quantum Tour KVD PT. Putting it on incorrectly will result in line twist that will reduce your casting distance or shorten the life of the fishing line.”  Davis gave these two tips for putting fishing line on reels. “It's best to run the fishing line all the way through the rod guides. This will lay the fishing line on the reel correctly. Also, an angler should make sure to have the right amount of tension on the fishing line going on the spool,” said Davis. Davis noted that he likes to pack braid line on tight to keep the line from burrowing down into itself and hanging up; in fact, he recommended at least 5-pounds of tension when spooling braid fishing line on reels.

EZ_Line_DispenserSpincast and spinning reels are both spooled the same way. After removing the old fishing line from the spool attach the new fishing line to the reel’s spool. The fishing line spool should be positioned so the line comes off the spool clockwise. Begin reeling on the line while watching for line twist. Make sure to have enough tension on the line to keep the new fishing line going on correctly and stop before putting too much line on.

Baitcasting reels can have new fishing line put on by one person if they use a line spool dispenser tool like the EZ Line Spool Dispenser. Begin by putting the spool of new fishing line on the EZ Line Spool Dispenser shaft and setting the tension. The fishing line should be put on the shaft so it comes over the top of the spool of line towards the reel then attach the new fishing line onto the reel after threading the line through the rod guides. Fill the spool up to the beveled edge on the reel being careful to not overfill.

Fishing line is expensive and putting it on correctly can save you money and time. It’s well worth the money to invest in a line spool dispenser so you don’t have to enlist the help of others while respooling line; in addition to helping you spool your line on correctly.
