Why did I not think of that?  That is what you will be thinking after taking a look at the new Sebile Soft Weight System.  The ways an angler can use these weights are unlimited.  Do you want to change a slow sinking bait to fall faster, tail down, or nose first?  It is easy to do with the Soft Weight System.  It can be used on a hard bait, soft bait, or even live bait.  “It works better than a weighted hook; a weighted hook can only work one way while the Soft Weight System can be added or taken away to adjust the fall,” explained Patrick Sebile international lure-maker and designer.

Sebile Soft Weight System

ICAST Best of Show Sebile Soft Weight SystemThe Sebile Soft Weight System (www.sebileusa.com) comes in six sizes.  Each package has a custom designed hook that are ultra sharp and strong.  The 1/0 hook comes with 1/64-ounce weights, 2/0 hook comes with 1/64-ounce weights, 3/0 hook comes with 1/48-ounce weights, 4/0 hook comes with 1/48-ounce weights, 5/0 hook comes with 1/32-ounce weights, and the 6/0 hook comes with 1/32-ounce weights.  Each one of the soft weights features a Tungsten gum rubber style construction.  This makes them easy to put on, adjust, or be taken off.  Each weight can be used multiple times and is made from materials that are environmentally friendly.  “I adjust how fast it falls with the number of soft weights I put on the hook,” said Sebile.  Sebile likes to move the weight forward to make a lure more responsive to jerks or twitches and drag it through thick aquatic vegetation; if he moves it more towards the back of the lure it will fall more horizontally.  Anglers can also add weight to their lures so they can cast farther into strong winds or on extremely light lures.
Three lures that can benefit from adding the Sebile Soft Weights system are jerkbait, spinnerbait, and soft stickbait.  For years anglers have tried to add weights to their jerkbait by a number of different methods.  Then, lure companies started coming out with suspending models.  The suspending models catch fish, but by adding weight to the front treble hook the lure will dive deeper all the way to the bottom and catch fish suspended or near the bottom.  Anglers can also add a Sebile Soft Weight to the center treble hook to make the lure sink faster while staying horizontal.  Sometimes anglers will add weight the tail treble hook.  This unique presentation makes the lure stand up straight in between jerks trigger bass to strike it.
Another lure that can benefit from adding Sebile Soft Weights to is a spinnerbait.  Spinnerbaits are notorious for wanting to rise up in the water column when retrieved.  Adding some Soft Weights will make it easier to slow roll a spinnerbait.  Sebile Soft Weights can also be added to a spinnerbait so anglers can make longer casts and buzz or bulge it just under the surface of the water.  These weights can easily be added before or after slipping on a trailer hook and to help keep it in place.
Soft stickbaits are one lure anglers love to add weight to the hook too.  While soft stickbaits will catch plenty of fish and big ones, they have to be weighted just right for a fish to bite them.  For example, after a cold front, anglers like a soft stickbait to fall extremely slow or fall nose forward during the spawn in the nest to resemble a bream eating the eggs.  Plus these changes can be made to the hook without having to totally remove the soft stickbait.
What a great idea the Sebile Soft Weight System is and yet so easy to use.  It makes you scratch your head and think…Why didn’t I think of that?
