    Author: Brad Wiegmann
Lake Fork Trophy Lures Frog Tail Hook rigged on a Booyah Pad Crasher (hollow belly frog)Are there any bass out there? Does any bass care? Does any angler wonder? Does any angler care? Will this hook break the spell? Oh, this empty hook is alone again; when will lady luck strike again? I guess I'm just fooling myself again. My hollow body frog has come back empty again.

Eco Pro Wacky Weights and Diamond Pegs by Eco PRO Tungsten

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

ECO PRO Tungsten wacky weights and ECO PRO Diamond PegsWeighting and pegging soft plastic lures has always been a challenge for anglers. Soft plastics lures tend to rip, tear, fall off, and slide down the hook. Soft stick lures like YUM Dingers or Gary Yamamoto Senkos with their supple plastic are just too soft and have an irresistible undulating swimming action, but that’s also what makes them so great to fish wacky style or Texas rigged. To solve this issue, Eco PRO Tungsten has developed two products the Eco PRO Tungsten Pro Wacky Weights and Eco PRO Diamond Pegs to keep your soft plastics locked in place and from tearing.

    The Barb-It

    Author: Brad Wiegmann
The Barb-ItAt ICAST this year, I was searching for something new. Not the same old crankbait with just a “new” color pattern or a “new” size to a lure. I wanted to find something “new” at ICAST to write about and be the first to do a review on the product. Well, I succeeded. I found a “new” product at ICAST and I don’t think anyone has written a product review about it yet; though, I expect they will after they see this one. The “new” product is The Barb-It. Do you know what a Barb-It is and how to use it correctly? While a number of astute anglers know what The Barb-It is many anglers don’t. This often happens with terminal tackle especially at trade shows like ICAST. All the excitement is focused on $16 crankbaits, but anglers know it takes quality terminal tackle to catch a fish.

VMC SpinShot Puts a New Twist on Drop Shot Rig

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

VMC SpinShot drop shot hookAnglers have numerous fishing techniques that they can use to catch bass. Some techniques are referred to as power fishing including flipping and pitching with heavy line and rods with strong back bones. Other techniques are more subtle. Angler use ultralight line and spinning rods that can cast light lures. Fishing a shaky head or drop shotting is often referred to a finesse technique for a more subtle presentation. Anglers often rely on a more subtle presentation in ultra clear water or when angling pressure has caused the fish to stop biting. A drop shot rig frequently is used in those situations, but there is a drawback to fishing with a drop shot rig. Line twist due to the drop shot weight spinning around.

Doodling Brass and Glass with Don Iovino

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

    Brass and glass

Every angler loves to go to lakes that are renowned for their trophy sized bass. Not surprisingly, anglers usually use heavy line, stiff rods, and reels that resemble wenches when fishing these reservoirs. Its power fishing and anglers love it; however these same reservoirs can turn off quickly by cold fronts and angling pressure leaving power fishermen wondering what to do. The only viable solution is to downsize and finesse fish for them. Finesse fishing techniques require lighter line, smaller reels, and more flexible fishing rods than used in power fishing. Professional angler, Don Iovino, one of the pioneers of finesse fishing brought doodling to the spotlight years ago catching bass when all other techniques failed to produce fish. That same technique continues to catch bass today, but is often overlooked by anglers who want to power fish.

Professional Angler Jimmy Mason Goes Smashing New Pumpkin ‘Ed Jigs

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Professional angler and fishing guide Jimmy MasonI thought that professional bass angler Jimmy Mason was too old for smashing pumpkins and taking off to the next place and smashing more pumpkins, but he isn’t. I saw him do it. He even wanted me to smash some pumpkins with him. At first, I was reluctant. The pumpkins are heavy and I thought it wasn’t that great of an idea, but after continual badgering I gave in. Wow, these pumpkins are really heavy I thought. Throwing it as far as I could it came down with a loud splash spraying liquid everywhere. Mason turned around with a huge smile across his face. I watch as it slowly disappeared and hit bottom. Ever so slowly, I began dragging it then without warning a heavy tug revealed something was pulling on my line. Instantly, I set the hook hard. Upwards my line shot and instantly a bass was tail walking across the surface scattering water everywhere. At that point Mason looked back and said, “I told you smashing pumpkins was fun!”

Change to Daiichi Will Do You Good

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Daiichi Treble HooksA change will do you good. A change to Daiichi treble hooks will do you good. That change will do you good. A change; a change will do you good especially if you want to hook and land more fish. Sharp hooks always catch more fish than dull ones, but unfortunately many lure manufactures put on cheap, dull treble hooks. So after you buy them, anglers should change them to sharp, stronger treble hooks.

The T-Turn by Thundermist Lure Company

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

T-Turn three way swivel by Thundermist Lure Company-part of the Perfect SeriesTerminal tackle is often overlooked by anglers. Hooks, swivels, sinkers, and floats just don’t get the respect they should. Most anglers think that terminal tackle is boring. One hook is the same as another hook or swivels just are all the alike. These anglers are often the ones that lose fish because their terminal tackle breaks or cannot get a good hook set with cheaper, inferior tackle. Three way swivels like the T-Turn by Thundermist Lure Company are often a key element in rigging for a number of techniques.

    He Fishes with Angels

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Hook Angels rigged on a YUM F2 Dinger

He don’t know no other; he fishes with Hook Angels.
He calls them all by name; Gold or Red they are all the same.
Sometimes, he even uses Angel Aids in strange company.
He wears a cross around his neck, it’s from someone he has not met; not yet.
    He fishes with Hook Angels.

The history behind Hook Angels starts with one angler wanting to design a weight that would make his soft plastic lures sink and swim naturally. It would replace the need for nail weights, spilt shots or worm weights and an angler would not have to cut their line every time to change the size of the weight. A weight that an angler could do it all with yet be small, compact and simple to use. After some initial trial and errors, James Ferriss, owner of Hook Angel, came up with an innovative weight that is now known as Hook Angel.
