Ultralight Combo Adds Xtralite XT Excitement to Fishing
Stop! Before you read any further, look at your fishing rods. Do you have a boat or house full of heavy action flipping sticks that could also be used as a pool cue? If so, you may want to skip reading the rest of this article because it’s all about having fun while fishing with Ultralight combos.
Fishing tackle has come a long ways since anglers made that first cast. Some of the early rods had the same flexibility as rebar (concrete reinforcing bar) and weighted about the same. Not today, fishing tackle has gone high-tech. That means lighter, stronger, and more durable materials.
Not only has rod quality improved, so has fishing reels. Many of the functions once only found on expensive spinning reels are standard for the new ultralight spinning reels. For example, an increase in the number of ball bearings a reel has or the Twist-Reducer line roller on the Quantum XT05. These improvements mean anglers can catch bigger fish on lighter lines and that equals excitement. Anglers can use an ultralight combo on any number of species of fish including trout, crappie, bluegills, bream, bass, catfish, or just about anything that swims.
Ultralight combos normally come with either a spinning reel or a triggerspin reel. Triggerspin reels have been around for some time now, but with the improvements in design and quality they have become extremely popular. Both spinning and triggerspin reels are mounted underneath the rod causing the reel to hang below the spinning rod. The spinning and triggerspin reel handles can be switched to either the left-hand or right-hand side of the reel depending which hand you reel with. The placement of the reel makes casting and holding more comfortable for anglers. The difference is a triggerspin looks and works like a spincast reel but hanging below the rod. With no bail and an enclosed reel spool, triggerspin reels rarely have fishing line tangles that anglers fishing with traditional spinning reels somet
imes experience.
Ultralight combos are pre-rigged, no guessing to see if the reel fits or
the rod does not match. Remember, no pool cues allowed. Ultralight fishing is about the challenge of catching fish on light line. Are you up for the challenge?
