Custom Built Fishing Rods; Your Choice, Your Rod

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

For numerous anglers, the choice of selecting which fishing rod they’re going to purchase and fish with, comes down to how it feels when they pull on the rod tip or shake it in the store.  Not a particularly logical way of selecting the most important piece of tackle you fish with, day in and day out.  Chances are if you are selecting your rods this way, you probably rarely; if ever, get the right rod or action desired.

    Fish on the Fly

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Fly fishing equipmentFor anglers, fly fishing takes them back to the ancient angling method of catching fish.  These anglers use only a fly rod, fly line, and fly reel.  Fly fishing is really a method of casting line instead of the lure.  The fly line that is weighted sends flies to the target area where fish are located.  Artificial flies that are tied to a leader can be made by an angler or purchased in a store. Flies are made from hair, feathers, fur, or other material that is attached to a hook with thread.  The size, weight, and color patterns are made to match the local forage or terrestrial and aquatic insects.

Appropriate Rods and Reels Land Fish

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Fish on, hang on tight and hope the reel’s drag will hold up to this monster striper run.  Man, this striper must have run 100 yards of line out before I could turn his head.  Slowly, I worked him back towards the boat.  All I have to do is …Crack!  Your new IM8 graphite bass rod burst into a 1000 pieces.  You slump down into your butt seat.  Quietly, thinking to yourself and reflecting on what just happened.  Hmm… ultra light graphite rod may not be appropriate for catching 30 pound stripers.
