ThermaCELL Donating Mosquito Protection to Troops

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

ThermaCELL Supporting Our Troops Nothing compares to giving. During this season, everyone feels the need to give to friends and family members, but often overlook the ones that sacrifice their own time with family members, even their lives. Of course, I am talking about American Troops that are stationed here and overseas to protect our freedom as U.S. citizens. Nothing compares to their sacrifices. Now, we can do something to support American Troops overseas. It’s not a trivial gesture either. It seems that American Troops overseas are at risk from insect bites every day. It’s a major health risk, but we can make a difference with the help of ThermaCELL. You see this holiday season when ThermaCELL receives 2 UPC codes between now and Christmas Day 2010, ThermaCELL will provide a free gift pack including an Appliance and Refill Value Pack for protection that can last up to 60 hours; in addition to a personal note from the gift giver.

The Multi Purpose Driftmaster Rod Holders and Trolling Systems

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Driftmaster T-Bar side viewLife would be a lot easier if we didn’t have any choices. No worries about what to wear if we only had one pair of blue jeans, a comfortable T-shirt, and sandals for your feet. It would all be so much easier; however that’s never going to happen. In some instances having choices is a positive thing. When it comes to rod holders you can never have too many options. It’s these options that help anglers custom rig their boats to their style of fishing. Of course what the angler’s trying to catch plays a major part of how many and what style of rod holders they need. In several fishing situations a trolling system maybe more appropriate than trying to attach each hold to their own base. One company that has been leading the way in designing high quality rod holders and trolling systems is Driftmaster.

Uptown Graphics Wraps Boats, Vehicles, Everything

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Uptown_Graphics_Wrapped_Boat_on_PlaneWhat would you say if someone offered you money to drive around a wrapped boat and truck with their logos on it for a year? Of course you would jump on that deal. Who wouldn’t want to do that? Not every angler ends up with sponsors and a wrapped boat and truck, but there are opportunities out there for wise anglers even in this economy. How you approach potential sponsors with your proposal will either make or break the opportunity. That’s where looking professional makes a difference. Having your boat and truck wrapped makes a positive statement. The sponsor knows they can get exposure any time you are on the road or in the water. That creates sales and generates revenue. Sponsors like, no sponsor love that.

    Last Chance Fishing Pliers

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Van Staal PliersDo you have what I have in my boat? I bet you do. It’s a set of fishing pliers that have seen better days. My pliers were once shinny and used to get hooks out of fish and cut fishing line. Not only did I enjoy using them, but I would offer them to the other anglers in my boat. They were my pride and joy; however, they slowly began turning on me. They often refuse to cut fishing line and at times were impossible to open with one hand. As they aged, rust slowly began covering them. They became unsightly and spent nearly all their time after that stowed in storage under the deck, only to come out in case of emergencies. I nicknamed them Old Rusty. Frustrated and disappointed in Old Rusty’s performance, I gave them one last chance to work by spraying them with WD-40. For a short time afterwards Old Rusty worked but only with 2 hands prying them apart and pushing them together. In an act of clemency, I gave Old Rusty a funeral at sea. Splash! I felt like a new man. All my troubles had disappeared to the deep depths of the lake.

    Multi Tool, Multiple Uses

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

I am off to go fishing just have to grab a couple tools to throw in the boat real quick. Let’s see, I have to have some clippers to cut my line with, a knife in case I need to cut something bigger and stronger than fishing line, and a sharp pointy thing to bust the jig eye out that have paint covered over them. Man, there has got to be a better way than towing a big tool box around. You would think by now someone would have developed a practical multi tool just for anglers. Nothing big and something you could hang around your neck, but not weigh you down. A no non-sense multi tool made from stainless steel. Maybe one day someone will. What? You said someone already makes one? Who? Frabill? I thought they only made awesome landing nets. Looks like I will be getting a Frabill Multi Tool and leaving my tool box at home.

More Rods, More Fish with Off Shore Tackle Side Planer Boards

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Taylor holding up a Off Shore Tackle Side PlanerI never thought that math skills would ever help me out when fishing, but I am quickly finding out that it can play a vital part in how successful a fishing trip can be. Take for example addition. The more rods you have out, the better chance you have of catching a fish. Most anglers only troll with 2 rods; I am trolling with 8; that’s 6 more rods and 6 additional chances of catching a fish. How about subtraction in fishing? That’s easy. The more rods spread out means an angler can cover more water in a short time. Taking away or subtracting unproductive water means you can focus on areas that have fish. Another math skill is learning angles. Of course if you have all those rods out you need to know what angles to troll them at. The wrong angle can lead to tangled fishing lines. Even with all the math skills, I need one more thing to be a successful angler and that’s side planer boards like the ones manufactured by Off Shore Tackle Products. With these boards, I can have multiple fishing lines out, cover more water quicker, and keep my lines from tangling.

Cover Your lures with Stealth Series Crankbait Cover-Ups

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

For tournament anglers Saturday can never come quickly enough. This Saturday was just like every other one. As the sun was slowly rising over the horizon, all the boats could be seen bobbing around with their navigation lights on preparing for the day’s event and going through the check-in boat. By the time the tournament would finally begin the sun had fully peaked over the horizon. Of course you had pulled up to a number of your fishing buddies to chat before takeoff, but you had a surprise for them as they tried to check out what was on your fishing poles. “Hey, what’s those things on your rod for?” asked one of them as he tried sneaking a peak at what lures you had tied on. “They are Crankbait Cover-Ups; they keep my lures from hanging up on the deck or getting tangled on the carpet going down the lake,” you respond. Of course you knew he was trying to get a look at what lures you were going to fish with, but that wasn’t going to happen today. Crankbait Cover-Ups not only keep your lures and rods from tangling up, but the dark color vinyl makes it hard for other anglers to see what you have tied on.

Remove Odors and Catch More Fish

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

    FishN_Wipes-2

I don’t understand. The guy fishing beside me keeps catching fish and I have yet to get a single bite. We both are using the same lure and size line. “Hey, let’s trade poles and see if I can catch one,” I ask my buddy. “Just don’t touch my lure, I don’t want any of your bad luck on my lure,” he responded. Sure enough on my first cast I catch a fish. “Okay, I give up,” I continue, “what’s up with your lucky lure?” “I don’t think it’s your lure; I think it’s the offensive odor on your hands touching the lure that is repelling the fish,” he countered.

    Protect That Camera

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Mad Dog rigid Series BagLook at that photograph would you. It’s just great memories of our fishing trip down to Lake Fork in Texas. That trip was all about big bass, excellent chow, and new friendships with some other anglers. As time passed, I would have forgotten my trip down there, but the photographs help me remember. I am glad that I had my camera for that trip. We took loads of photos. Still remember it like yesterday. Lucky for me I had put my camera inside the Mad Dog Rigid Series Bag. Man, what a tough bag. I know we put it through some abuse that weekend, but it protected my camera and the photos.

Mustang Survival Inflatable PFD Can Save Your Life

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Mustang Survival Inflatable PFDDo you wear your Personal Floatation Device?  Oh, I know and heard all the excuses people make as a fishing guide when you ask them if they are going to put on their PFDs.  Do we really have to wear them?  You don’t have my size?  Lifejackets are uncomfortable?  Or my personal favorite; I can swim, I don’t need one.  Yeah, have you ever tried swimming fully clothed in ice cold 50-degree water after being thrown from a bass boat going 60-mph?  Today there is no excuse for not wearing a PFD in a boat or when the boat is up on plane.  Wearable PFDs come in a number of types and can be worn when on inland waters, costal cruising, and offshore.  Inflatable PFDs like the ones made by Mustang Survival are light weight and extremely comfortable to wear.  That means no saying it’s too hot to wear a PFD.
Why is wearing PFDs so important?  First, all bass tournaments that I have ever fished in require all anglers to wear a Coast Guard approved PFD or be disqualified.  Second, a PFD helps you stay face up in the water, increasing your chances of being rescued and that’s important with drowning being the leading cause of fatalities involving recreational vessels.  The majority of adults only require 15 to 26.4-pounds of floatation to stay afloat when in the water.
