Outdoor Water Solutions Windmills Not Just for Looks but Powering Pond Aerators

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

OWS WindmillI love fishing farm ponds.  They take me back to my youth when I would ride my bike to the pond and go fishing all day.  The pond was an oasis for me; no adults and the fish in the pond would strike any lure I casted to them.  Times have changed since then, but pond and small lakes continue to offer a place where anglers can find peace and tranquility away from jet skiers, pleasure boaters, and tournament anglers.  My favorite pond had slow sloping banks making it easy to fish the entire pond.  The only noise came from birds singing, frogs croaking, and a windmill slowly turning any time the wind blew.

Moss Back Fish Rack: An Innovative Fish Attractor for Building Fish Cover

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Moss Back Fish Rack fish attractor

I thought this was a little strange behavior, even for my fishing buddy.  I mean, why would he want me to meet him after dark in his garage where he keeps his boat and not bring my fishing gear?  After 20 years of fishing together, I have given up on trying to figure him out; so later after it got dark, I was off to see what he was up too.

The garage was completely dark when I got there except for one small light.  Sure enough my buddy was waiting for me.  “Hey, come over here and listen to this,” he said in a hushed voice.  I cautiously moved over towards him.  After years of practical jokes, I was notDavid King Owner of Moss Back Fish Rack going to let him play another trick on me.  Looking down on his workbench, I saw an old tape recorder. “What’s up with that?” I asked.  “Quiet and listen,” he instructed me pushing the play button.  “Good evening anglers, your mission should you decide to accept it is to assemble a Moss Back Fish Rack fish attractor on Lake SWEPCO; as always, it’s up to you and your buddy to assemble the fish attractor without getting caught.  All the hardware, supplies, and branches are located inside the 5-foot PVC tube.  Should you or your fishing buddy get caught or killed, your wives will disown you and your actions.  As usual this tape will self-destruct in five seconds after listening to it,” said an official sounding voice.

“Have you gone loco?” I responded after the tape stopped.  “No, I am just tired of other guys fishing our brush piles and fish attractors we have been putting out; so, tonight its mission impossible!  We are going to sink some fish attractors without anyone seeing us,” he explained.  “Fair enough, those guys in the club have been stealing our spots loaded with our fish attractors for years,” I continued, “where is my black camouflage clothing to wear?”  “Forget the camouflage clothing and come over here and look at the new fish attractor I bought made by Moss Bass Fish Rack,” he continued, “it comes in a 5-foot or 10-foot PVC pipe; no one will know what we are up too.”

       PLEASE

     NO FISHING!

    No fishing in this pond

Some anglers just cannot resist fishing in restricted ponds.  The "unnamed angler" was making a couple cast into the demo pond during the Pond Boss Conference and Expo III held at Big Cedar Lodge.
