This Swimbait is Top of The Line

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Optimum Baits Top of The LineNot all swimbaits were designed to be fished on the surface. Don’t get me wrong, I love to slow wake a big swimbait across the surface and watch a monster bass crush it; however, there are times when bass will not feed on the surface and you have to fish on the bottom or around cover. Swimbaits with treble hooks sticking out of the belly section are not the best choice when slow rolling on the bottom or around brush. That’s why anglers are so excited about the new Top of The Line swimbait by Optimum Baits.

The Shad Swimbait by ABT Lures a Beast of Swimbaits

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

     ABT Lures Shad Swimbait

Have you ever casted a beast of swimbaits out on your local lake?  I mean a swimbait that seeks out bass to hook.  A swimbait that catches fish anywhere you go, any time, any lake.  Of course it would have to have to be about 4-inches long and have the profile of an adult threadfin shad; in addition to having 3-D eyes, premium hooks and one awesome realistic paint job.  Not only that, but have lifelike action that would attract bass.  That beast of a lure would be the ABT Shad Swimbait.

Anglers Adding Rebel 19-Inch Autographed Zell Rowland Pop-R to Swimbait Arsenal

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Zell Roland with Rebel Pop-RI thought that I had heard it all when it comes to fishing lures.  I mean, it’s not unusual for California anglers to cast 8 to 12-inch swimbaits for monster bass in Lake Shasta or Clear Lake.  I guess that is why it did not surprise me when this Bassmaster Elite Angler called me and reported catching numbers of huge bass on the Rebel 19-inch Autographed Zell Rowland Pop-R.

    Little Swimbaits Catch Big Bass

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

4-inch tru-tngsten swimbaitBig baits catch big bass; small baits catch little fish right?  Not necessarily, especially when you are talking about swimbaits.  The great thing about swimbaits is they bring something completely different to your arsenal of fishing lures you may not already have.  While the majority of hard swimbaits come in one size-BIG, a few lure companies are starting to produce smaller sizes that anglers in the Midwest or eastern part of the United States can use confidently to catch bass with.

    Spotted Bass Swimbait Killer

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

    ABT Lures Wag Tail

One long cast and it lands with authority. Large swimbaits rarely land quietly. After a couple quick turns of the reel handle the swimbait quickly comes up towards just below the surface making a gentle wake. The fast pace makes the swimbait’s tag wag back and forth resembling a live shad ripping across the surface. Its main body rocks moderate in effort to keep up. Without warning a giant spotted bass pounces on it almost ripping the rod and reel from the angler’s firm grip. Incredible, the angler was catching spotted bass on a hard swimbait in clear water? One more cast and a big largemouth inhales it. Okay, that’s not so usual, but the next cast into the school hooks a nice size striper. There is something to this swimbait that fish love. Maybe it’s the tail wag?

Welcome to the Family Spro BBZ-1 Baby Shad

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

    SPRO BBZ-1 Baby Shad

The family of SPRO BBZ-1 lures is now complete with the birth…release of the SPRO BBZ-1 Baby Shad.  Now no matter what size baitfish the fish are foraging on, there is a BBZ-1 lure to match it.  No one could be any prouder than the lure designer and professional angler Bill Siemantel.  In the beginning, Siemantel had a concept for designing swimbaits that correlate with his theoretic philosophy on the behavior of bass.  In other words, Siemantel design lures the right size for any game fish that would stay in their strike zone.  In the strike zone, in this case meaning top, middle, or bottom.  You present a lure correctly and you catch a fish.

Professional Bass Angler Sean Hoernke Hooked on Revolution Bluegill

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

    Reaction Strike Revolution Bluegill

Professional bass angler Sean Hoernke is hooked.  No, a lure is not hanging from his shirt or stuck in his hand.  Hoernke, a professional angler from Woodland, Texas, is hooked on the Reaction Strike Revolution Bluegill.  Hoernke like the majority of other professional anglers know how deadly a bluegill imitating lure catches bass in the spring when bass or bluegills go to spawning in the spring; however, unlike other professional anglers, Hoernke doesn’t just catch fish on the Revolution Bluegill in the spring.  For him it’s a year round lure that he uses to catch them almost anywhere, anytime.

Just like any bait, knowing when and how to present a lure can mean the difference between a successful fishing trip or getting skunked.  “The key to catching fish on the Revolution Bluegill is to fish it like a crankbait or wake bait; its deadly on bass located in 5- to 7-feet of water,” explained Hoernke.  In the springtime, Hoernke will fish with the Revolution Bluegill near bass or bluegill beds.  He likes to use a stop and go retrieve, dead-stick it right in the bed, or just cast past the bed and reel it in very slowly.  One technique Hoernke has been successful with is sight fishing.  Once he has spotted a bed, Hoernke will cast the Revolution Bluegill right into the bed and give the lure a series of soft twitches. “This makes the bait look like its eating the eggs in the bed and no bass can stand it,” said Hoernke.

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

California-style SwimbaitIt is a day like no other day. You finally caught a big bass. You celebrate, jumping up and down. You quickly call fishing buddies to let them in on the news. Describing every explosive leap, your fishing rod bending, his head swing side to side while trying to throw the lure, and then subsiding into the net. For you, catching one massive largemouth proves to be a thrill of your lifetime. On the other hand, for Bill Siemantel, a Los Angles California Firefighter, catching giant bass is his passion.

You see, Bill Siemantel happens to be renowned lure designer, successful tournament pro, author, and giant bass catcher; however, unlike other anglers who keep their big bass knowledge secret. Siemantel openly shares his knowledge with other anglers and puts it all in his book Big Bass Zone.
