Lures
Soft Baits
Is it a Sinking Worm, a Swimbait, Shaky Worm or Do-nothing Worm?
No, it’s not Super Worm! It’s Gene Larew’s new 6-inch Salt Flick’R. It can’t be easy being a Salt Flick’R. Not quite a traditional sinking worm, swimbait, shaky worm or do-nothing worm. Though once taken out of the inside an angler’s tackle box can turn in to a sinking worm, swimbait, shaky worm or do-nothing worm by removing its appendages. Just like Superman can turn into a number of different super lures with a change of appearance.
The Salt Flick’R is one lure with multiple applications. Taking the appendages off the front end you have a sinking worming or soft stickbait body worm. Hook it in the middle and fish it wacky worm style. This is a great presentation when fishing for bass in shallow water or during the spawn. Maybe, you live on a reservoir with monster bass that feed on trout. Just rig it on a swimbait hook and swim it back to the boat. Perhaps you need to down size your presentation due to angling pressure. All you have to do is pinch off the two appendages and remove some of the worm body. In heavy angling pressure or cold front situations the Salt Flick’R may only be 3-inches long. It could be you need a do-nothing style worm for a Carolina Rig or Texas rig; again you just pinch off the appendages and you have the perfect do-nothing wo
rm.
One fishing guide who is especially fond of the Gene Larew (www.genelarew.com) Salt Flick’R is Ivan Martin. Martin guides for bass from Canada to Mexico. His favorite rig for catching largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass is a heavy worm reeled across the bottom on a shaky head. Of course around the Gene Larew office it’s called the IRig because of Ivan’s prowess with it. Why is this technique so productive? When the Salt Flick’R on a shaky head is slowly reeled in across the bottom it flickers giving it a lifelike appearance.
Simply more than a pretty lure that can only be used for one technique or one lake. What a great idea. No more digging around the tackle box for a dozen different soft plastic lures. While it’s not Super Worm, you may think it is! It’s Gene Larew’s new 6-inch Salt Flick’R.
