    The Alabama Rig

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

The Alabama RigFew lures can say they revolutionize the fishing lure industry. In recent history, the Lucky Craft RC series designed what has taken off as the plastic mold square bill rising where every major lure company has a knockoff. Another company that has to be included was Lunker City who had their registered Slug-Go duplicate in some form or another by every soft plastic lure manufacture. Now there is one more revolutionary lure coming out for anglers to fish with that is going to again incite the fishing tackle industry; probably to duplicate the original once again. The Alabama Rig® is the first of its kind without a real category to classify it in.

ima Square BillIt’s hip to be square, so hip to be square. You probably think that it’s crazy but it’s hip to be square, so hip. Bassmaster Elite Series professional angler Bill Lowen says it hip to be square if you are a crankbait. It’s so hip to be square if you are a crankbait. So hip, if you are a stubby, rounded body square bill that wobbles, hunts, and crashes into cover at breakneck speed or can be waked, twitched, and burned to provoke a strike from a bass.

XCalibur Square Lips Giving Bass Fat Lips

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Brad Wiegmann with smallmouth caught on an XCalibur Square Lip“Hey, what happened to your lip Mr. Hawg?” I asked. “I don’t want to talk about it,” Hawg responded rubbing his lower lip gently against the tree limb,” and you had better stay away from anything that looks like a real crawfish or shad today.” Hawg’s demeanor was quickly sinking lower than his bottom lip. “All I did was go out for a quick snack and ended up in this guy’s boat going to a tournament weigh-in,” said Hawg. I knew what he was experiencing. It happened to me the other weekend. What I thought was a crawfish turned out to be a YUM Wooly Bug and off to the weigh-in I went. “I thought we only had to worry about soft plastic with that new YUM F2 scent?” I replied. “Not now, when I was up in the guy’s boat I saw a whole bunch of these new lures on his rods,” Hawg continued, “with a lot of new color patterns then I overheard him tell his fishing buddy that XCalibur Lures has 3 different size models to pick from.” “What else did you hear?” I eagerly asked. “Well, the guy that caught me called the lure a Square Lip after that I went up on stage to get my picture taken with him,” Hawg went on, “now don’t get me wrong, I like to have my picture taken, but not with a guy that just busted my lip.”

    IMA’s Finesse Foxy Fry

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

ima Foxy FryIt the era of power fishing, slinging big baits is the norm. Every angler wants to gear up with super strong ultra thin braid, heavy duty fluorocarbon, and monofilament that is as thick as rope. They want to fish in the heaviest cover available with rods as thick as pool cues and strong enough to take on Giant Bluefin Tuna. That’s all good and well until a cold front moves through and the temperatures spiral downward. The next morning a bluebird sky waits for you without the slightest hint of a breeze all day. That’s when an astute angler will dig out their spinning rod rigged with light line and small lure to catch fish. The ima Foxy Fry is one of those small lures that can catch fish on any day, but really shines after a cold front moves through.

It’s Scary How Realistic the XCalibur Real Craw Looks

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

    XCalibur Real Craw Lure

Deep, really deep in the bottom of my tackle box there rest lures that haven’t seen day light in years. I rarely reach for these lures when out fishing. They just look lifeless with no texture. It’s hard to have confidence in a lifeless lure, but that has all changed now. Now when I reach in my tackle box it’s with anticipated excitement over which color of lifelike XCalibur Xr50 Real Craw lipless crankbait to fish with. It’s scary how realistic the new XCalibur Xr50 Real Craw lipless crankbait looks.

    The Crustacean Looking Real Craw

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

    Bomber Real Craw

What would you rather cast; a super-realistic looking crawfish with an exoskeleton body or one that just has a flat looking crawfish pattern on it? Maybe the real question is which one do you think the fish are going to bite? The realistic looking Bomber Model A Real Craw or a fake imitation without the exoskeleton body? I’m guessing the Real Craw. The Model A Real Craw by Bomber Lures is a series of lures that have an exoskeleton finish giving them an unique texture; in addition to having raised, blood-red crustacean eyes that are positioned at the end of the lure giving it a  realistic appearance.
