Jackall Squirrel and Squadminnow Jerkbaits

Anglers have always loved to modify their lures especially jerkbaits. Sometimes anglers have to for the jerkbait to run right, suspend level, or dive to a certain depth. That’s all history now with the Jackall Squirrel and Jackall Squadminnow. These lures don’t need any adjustments; you can just take them out of the package and catch fish with them. Why doesn’t Jackall Squirrel and Squadminnow jerkbaits need any adjustments? You can thank the Jackall Lures engineers in the research and development (R&D) division for that. They developed a vaulted design process in which three dimensional computer modeling combined with machines especially built to produce lures at precise tolerances to ensure uniformity.
It’s not easy to come up with a new lure or design. Knowing this, Jackall Lures had one of the legendary lure designers, Seiji Kato; combine his design ideas along with input from top American and Japanese bass professionals. Not only could they take the professional anglers or Kato’s suggestions to make improvements but the improvements can be done quickly. That’s unheard of at most lure manufactures, usually to implement any changes or improvements require a longer period of time.

Jackall Lures (www.jackall-lures.com) has set a new standard in jerkbaits with the Squirrel and Squadminnow by developing a unique weight system and weight moving system. These systems make the Jackall Squirrel and Squadminnow jerkbaits cast farther and stop on a dime. The weight system is only available on the Squadminnow 95SP. It has fixed positioned ball bearings and a weight. The weight system in the Squadminnow 95SP allows the lure to be extremely stable in the water and able to react to any type of action anglers employ. The weight moving system has a weight along with ball bearings that move within specially designed chambers in the body cavity. When casted the Squirrel 76SP and 79SP along with the Squadminnow 115SP and 128SP ball bearings shift towards the tail section allowing it to be casted farther.
Besides increased casting distances, the Jackall Squirrel and Squadminnow have a unique ability to stop on a dime when paused and balance perfectly. That makes it an easy meal for any bass to devour when paused. Kato designed the Squadminnow to have a wide gait; in addition to having a large profile to imitate large baitfish. The Squirrel comes in two different sizes and bill design. The Squirrel 79SP has a larger body and bill along it to dive up to 8 feet. The Squadminnow is available in 13 color patterns and three sizes including 95SP, 115SP, and 128SP. The Squirrel is available in 6 color patterns and two sizes including the 76SP and 79SP.
Jackall Pro Staffer and FLW Tour angler Christian Romans fishes with the Jackall Squirrel and Squadminnow any time the water temperatures are 48 degrees- to 55- degrees. “Both of them are great in the winter or during the spring. Pre-spawn is really the best time to catch them on a jerkbait. I will begin fishing the main lake spots early when the water is still cold and move into the first quarter of pockets or coves once the water temperatures begin to warm up. The best place to fish back inside these pockets or coves is secondary points where the channel swings. The bass use these channels to migrate back towards spawning areas,” explained Romans. Another factor is baitfish. “I always look for baitfish because the bass will be somewhere close to them as they move back into the coves,” said Romans. Romans likes to use the Squirrel when fishing in deep water and change to the Squad when fishing shallow or around big baitfish. He also keeps it simple when selecting what color pattern to fish with. “I like to fish the ghost minnow in clear water and purple and chartreuse in stained, but the most important thing is what cadence to use. I like to use a jerk, jerk, pause, jerk, jerk, jerk, pause cadence most of the time; although on Beaver Lake in Arkansas last year the fish wanted it jerked extremely fast without any pauses,” said Romans.
The Squadminnow and Squirrel are lures that were developed from three dimensional computer modeling and machines that are engineered to precise tolerances to ensure uniformity. Now with this technology
modifying jerkbaits has become a thing of the past leaving anglers more time to fish.
