Rebel Lures Ready to Celebrate 50 Years 1962-2012

REBEL LuresSince making that first Rebel Lure in 1962 things have changed significantly. Rebel Lures started out making minnows out of “space age polymer” plastic when all the other lure companies were still building them from balsa wood or metal. It was George Perrin’s vision to build these technological advanced lures 50 years ago. Since then other lure companies have come and gone while Rebel Lures continued to design and build new lures like the Frog-R and Crappie Crank-R; in addition to keeping some of the old favorites and most popular lures like the Pop-R and Rebel Minnow.

When Rebel (www.Rebellures.com) first started making plastic lures back in 1962 the average income per year for Americans was $5,556 rent $110 per month, eggs were 32 cents and I know this is almost impossible to believe, but only 28 cents per gallon for gas. America was on the brink of world war three with USSR due to the Cuban Missile Crisis, Marilyn Monroe was found dead of an apparent overdose, the first U.S. rocket Ranger IV landed on the moon, and Wal-Mart opened its first store in Bentonville, Arkansas. The Rebel Minnow retailed at around 35-cents. At that time this was a lot of money for someone to spend on a fishing lure, but it had its advantages. To start with it lasted longer than balsa wood minnow shaped lures; in addition to tracking true right out of the package. Just like back in 1962, Rebel Lures continues to grow its product line. This year Rebel Lures came out with the Frog-R. This ultra realistic looking frog weighs 5/16-ounces and can be walked just like a Heddon Zara Spook.

To celebrate Rebel has come out with its special 50th anniversary 2-pack. The 2-pack comes in the Rebel Pop-R, Tracdown Minnow, and Critter. The Rebel Pop-R Special 50th Anniversary 2-Pack has two Zell approved color patterns. Just like the original Pop-R these can be popped, chugged, and walked to catch fish. The Tracdown Minnow Special 50th Anniversary 2-Pack has two Rebel Tracdown Minnows that have realistic color patterns, 3-D eyes and an erratic action when twitched. The Critter Special 50th Anniversary 2-Pack has two realistic looking grasshoppers and crawfish. These Critter lures are great for fishing small waters like streams or ponds.

REBEL Lures Pop-RA long time has passed since Rebel Lures made their first plastic lure, but their dedication to excellence has continued to improve their products. Back when George Perrin started his lure company John F. Kennedy was president of the United States and the first James Bond 007 movie was filmed. People fished just for fun. The Rebel 50th Anniversary 2-Packs are about bringing memories and fun back into fishing.
