Catch Big Fish with K-B Spoon

    Author: Brad Wiegmann |

K-B SpoonIt’s legendary among anglers throughout the United States. Anytime anglers go in pursuit of trophy bass, monster muskies, big northern pike, huge walleyes, giant lake trout or massive stripers they rig up with the K-B Spoon to catch them. The K-B’s extra wide wobbling action drives game fish wild and the seductive shape entices vicious strikes.

K-B Spoons (www.doctorspoon.com) has been around for over 70 years and to its credit caught millions of fish. The K-B Spoon comes in four different sizes including 1½-inch (1/4-ounces) KB1, 2½-inches (1/2-ounces) KB2, 3½-inches (1-ounce) KB3, and 4-½-inches (1 ¾-inches) KB4. The smaller KB1 and KB2 models are perfect for walleye, trout, panfish, white bass, hybrids, and stripers while the larger KB3 and KB4 are for bigger game fish like northerns, lake trout, muskies, stripers, and hybrids. It’s available in 13 popular fish catching color patterns.

K-B Spoons can be casted, trolled, or vertically jigged. Similar to other spoons, K-B Spoons are more productive in clear or slightly stained water clarity. Spoons are visual lures that also put off vibration to attract fish to strike them. Depending on what species you are trying to catch an angler may be casting, trolling, or vertically jigged. Common casting situations are around aquatic vegetation, ledges, and schooling fish. Around aquatic vegetation an angler maybe fishing the K-B Spoon horizontally over the top of grass or dropping it in the holes for northern pike. Ledges are also a great place to fish K-B Spoons. Ledges like the ones found on Kentucky Lake in Kentucky hold schools of fish waiting for an easy meal. A K-B Spoon fluttering through a school of bass will often fire up a school and an angler can load the boat with largemouth, smallmouth, hybrids, and white bass. K-B Spoons can also be vertically jigged to attract fish located on structure or around schools of baitfish.

K-B SpoonTrolling would be one of the favorite ways angler’s fish with K-B Spoons. An angler can either troll with their outboard engine or electric trolling motor. The key is to find what speed and depth the fish wants the spoon. Inline weights or downriggers can be used to keep a K-B Spoon deeper in the water column. In shallow water situations, anglers can use planer boards to spread out their K-B Spoons away from the boat and noise from the outboard. Planer boards also allow anglers to cover vast areas of open water and find where fish are feeding. Anglers can also control the depth by using a heavier K-B Spoon or trolling at a slower speed.

The K-B Spoon and its wide wobbling action is one lure that every angler fishing for trophy game fish should have in their tackle boxes; in addition to anglers just wanting to catch lots of smaller game fish.
