In the realm of fishing lures, the jigging spoon may be the most underwritten about and unadvertised.  Expensive swimbaits and high tech lures dominate fishing magazines along with tackle store shelves.  The jigging spoon gets little fanfare and stuck deep, deep into an anglers tackle box, if they even have one at all.  The “catch” to jigging spoons is they produce fish year round but can be pimped out to increase bites. Jigging spoons come in two styles.  A double flat sided jigging spoon like a Cotton Cordell C.C. Spoon or one flat side and one tapered “keel-shaped” side Bomber Slab Spoon that has a fluttering action made for fishing in deep water or vertically.  Both jigging spoon styles can be fished by casting out to schooling fish on varied retrieves or worked vertically around deep structure and schools of fish.

To pimp out your jigging spoons begin by removing the treble hook, later it will be replaced with a high quality treble hook.  Cut to shape reflective roll tape or use pre-cut stick-on WTP Inc. decals and apply to the spoon then add a 3-D stick-on lure eye, a stringer hook can be added to the front wire loop to increase your hook-up ratio, attach a split ring with an undressed XCalibur Tx3 Point Rotating Treble Hook or a XCalibur Tx3 Feather Dressed Rotating Treble Hook for extra flash and action to the spoon on the back wire loop.  When fishing in thick brush piles, a XCalibur Tx3 Point Wide Gap Worm Hook can be used in place of the treble hook to decrease your chances of getting snagged.
