    RU Fishin w/ YUM F2

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

YUM F2 ShakealiciousRU fishing with YUM F2?  It’s the new soft plastic baits by YUM.  What’s so special about YUM F2?  F2 stands for Ferocity Squared that is a highly concentrated formula clinically tested powerful scent.  It was tested by Mississippi State University under the strictest scientific conditions and the results are documented that bass prefer YUM F2 by 30 percent.  Why does this matter and how will it help me catch more fish?  Bass will strike a lure for a number of reasons.  Some strikes are reaction or done to protect its territory.  Other strikes are more deliberate.  That’s where scent becomes a major factor in catching a bass.  A bass may first notice a scent before even seeing the bait.  Once the bass realizes the scent is food, it will begin searching for it.  After it is located, a bass will either attempt to taste or eat it.  What else makes YUM F2 unique is it will retain its suppleness and “swimability” when left out of the package.  So it won’t dry hard or shrivel which is great, but it can also be infused into traditional soft plastics giving them the same scent.

Lucky Craft Pointer 95 Silent a Deadly Quiet Suspending Jerkbait

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Looking down at my fishing partner’s jerkbait in the crystal clear waters of Table Rock Lake it quietly wobbles back and forth.  Not really a wide wobble, but a tight wobble.  You can barely hear the wind blowing through the pine trees above us on a towering bluff.  The silence is haunting.  He shakes the jerkbait, but no sound.  Not a rattle or weight transfer system inside it.  He casts towards a row of cedar trees just under the water’s surface.  One jerk, pause, two jerks, pause, one…bang!  Another quality Kentucky bass comes darting out from the cedar tree and eats the lure.  He fights the bass into the boat and looks at me then releases it.  I cannot believe it.  I am quickly get a lesson on the Lucky Craft Pointer 95 Silent and how it catches fish in clear and cold water when other baits with rattles are refused.

Angler Watches LIVETARGET Lures Crawl across Rock!

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

    LIVETARGET Crawfish Crankbaits

Springdale, Arkansas-An angler fishing Beaver Lake in northwest Arkansas reported to fellow anglers, newspapers, and TV reporters that he saw four life-like lures crawl across the top of a rock while out fishing early Friday morning.  "I was just out fishing and I saw these life-like lures just come out of the water," he continued, "they crawled right on top the rock and was sunning themselves; till that bass tried to eat them."  The angler was able to get a photo of them with his cell phone before the bass attacked them.  "I just cannot believe how life-like those lures looked; that bass chased each one of them...just like a LIVETARGET," said the angler.  It is unknown at this time if any of the Crawfish made it out alive after being attacked by the bass.  No doubt, we will be hearing more about these sighting as other anglers have reported seeing Shad, Smelt, Golden Shiner and other life-like lures being attacked to newspapers and TV reporters.

The LIVETARGET Crawfish Crank (www.livetargetlures.com) is a ‘fat style’ crankbait with an accurate profile and anatomical details of a fleeing crawfish (Orconectes Propinquus).  The ‘fat style’ is reminiscent of the extremely popular original Wiggle Wart.  When Storm lures was purchased by Rapala a number of modifications were made to the original Wiggle Wart that changed the action.  Some say for the better, other say that the original Wiggle Wart crankbait action cannot be duplicated.  For proof, just look at how much anglers are willing to pay for the originals on eBay.  That is where LIVETARGET Crawfish Crank ‘fat style’ crankbaits come in; they have that distinctive wide wobble swimming action and soft deflection with accurate recovery that fish cannot resist.

Sexy Spoon Fishing With Professional Angler Mark Rose

    Strike King Sexy Shad Spoon

I give up!  I mean, what else can I say about the Strike King Sexy Spoon that already has not been written.  I love the articles that cleverly play on the word sexy.  You know the ones.  Do you really think that a slightly, curved piece of metal is sexy, tantalizing, lifelike, seductive, curvaceous, or large and in charge?  No way!  The Strike King Sexy Spoon is simply a spoon designed especially for catching fish when they are located on off shore structure.  No one professional angler has profited more by using the Sexy Spoon in bass tournaments than Mark Rose from Marion, Arkansas.  Truth be told, part of the resurgence in the popularity of big spoons can be directly related to Rose’s success in bass tournaments.  Rose’s technique for how and when to fish big spoons is anything but sexy; however, the results can be very exciting.

Chugging, Spitting, Dog-Walking Cotton Cordell Pencil Popper

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

    Cotton Cordell Pencil Popper

Only one lure sounds like the chugging, spitting, dog-walking Cotton Cordell Pencil Popper.  That action and sound attracts stripers and big bass from long distances resulting in heart pounding vicious strikes; however, there is more to fishing a pencil popper than just casting it out and walking it.  You have to know when to fish with it and where.  After you know when and where, an angler should fine-tune their presentation with size and what color pattern will catch fish.

Pencil poppers come in a variety of sizes and color patterns.  While the pencil popper has been a standard topwater bait for coastal anglers for years, inland striper and bass anglers are quickly becoming quite fond of them.  The tail weighted Cotton Cordell Pencil Popper (www.lurenet.com) allows for ultra long casts and creates a chugging, spitting action when using the walk-the-dog retrieve.

Handcrafted Balsa Wood Killer V Lure Not Your Everyday Wake Bait

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Basshunter Baits Killer V wake bait in sexy shad

It’s a killer! You heard me right.  A killer and its targets are bass.  To be specific, post-spawn bass looking for an easy meal after exhausting themselves from courting; however, this wake bait is not made of molded plastic.  No, the Killer V by Basshunter Baits in Knoxville, Tennessee, is made from handpicked balsa wood.  It only makes sense that the Killer V would come from the heart of hand crafted balsa wood lures.  The owner of Basshunter Baits, Brian K. Moore, spent over two years researching, designing, building, and testing the Killer V before it finally made it to any store shelves.  It was well worth the time Moore put into it to ensure that his wake bait would have the correct buoyancy and running depth.

Professional Bass Angler Sean Hoernke Hooked on Revolution Bluegill

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

    Reaction Strike Revolution Bluegill

Professional bass angler Sean Hoernke is hooked.  No, a lure is not hanging from his shirt or stuck in his hand.  Hoernke, a professional angler from Woodland, Texas, is hooked on the Reaction Strike Revolution Bluegill.  Hoernke like the majority of other professional anglers know how deadly a bluegill imitating lure catches bass in the spring when bass or bluegills go to spawning in the spring; however, unlike other professional anglers, Hoernke doesn’t just catch fish on the Revolution Bluegill in the spring.  For him it’s a year round lure that he uses to catch them almost anywhere, anytime.

Just like any bait, knowing when and how to present a lure can mean the difference between a successful fishing trip or getting skunked.  “The key to catching fish on the Revolution Bluegill is to fish it like a crankbait or wake bait; its deadly on bass located in 5- to 7-feet of water,” explained Hoernke.  In the springtime, Hoernke will fish with the Revolution Bluegill near bass or bluegill beds.  He likes to use a stop and go retrieve, dead-stick it right in the bed, or just cast past the bed and reel it in very slowly.  One technique Hoernke has been successful with is sight fishing.  Once he has spotted a bed, Hoernke will cast the Revolution Bluegill right into the bed and give the lure a series of soft twitches. “This makes the bait look like its eating the eggs in the bed and no bass can stand it,” said Hoernke.
