Here is a quick look at some of the professionals behind FlyWater:
Corey Engen – President & Anglineer: Corey is a Professional Fly-
Fishing Guide and Environmental Engineer. His education and training,
coupled with experiences in angling and a passion for rivers, gives him an
uncanny ability to view the river from an angling, technical, and biological
perspective. This allows him to communicate in common terms while
understanding the underlying technical issues that produce excellent
fisheries. Corey is passionate about what he does and respected by his
peers. Corey is also an award-winning designer.
Brad Florentin – Vice-President & Anglineer: Brad is a
Professional Engineer with a Master’s Degree in Hydraulic Engineering.
He developed his thesis while at Colorado State University around
extensive research in the evaluation of creek and fish habitat restoration for
low flows. Brad's technical expertise lies within the riverine corridor. He
blends knowledge and training in wetland delineation and creation with a
passion for riverine hydraulics to produce hard scientific solutions with a
soft edge. Brad is an award winning designer and professional guide.
Bill Schenderlein – Project Manager & Anglineer: Bill is a Professional Engineer and Certified Floodplain Manager whose education and experience provide diversified knowledge and skills in both engineering and the natural sciences. As an engineer and water quality hydrologist, Bill’s work on river and lake restoration projects in the Rocky Mountain West has concentrated on aquatic function in varying flow regimes, including water quality, sedimentation, hydrogeologic, and geomorphic relationships. As an accomplished angler and avid outdoorsman, Bill also adds a personal interest and understanding of aquatic systems that extends beyond his professional experience.
Matt Burton – Fishery Biologist & Anglineer: Matt is a Fly-Fishing Guide, fly-tier and lure maker with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries Biology from Colorado State University. He has lived and fished from the south to the Rocky Mountain West and has a well developed understanding of warm and cold -water fisheries. Matt is passionate about aquatic systems and anything that swims. He brings diversity and creativity to FlyWater. Matt believes the same holds true for life as it does for a fishery; if you look deep enough, there are no boundaries.
Cameron Walford – Fishery Biologist: Cameron is a seasoned fisheries biologist, angler, and hunter. He received his Fishery Biology Degree from Colorado State University (CSU) and is a Research Associate of CSU's famed Larval Fish Laboratory. His areas of expertise and interests include native fish conservation,creek ecology, nonnative - native fish interaction, effects of hydrological regime on fish communities,
population dynamics, swimming physiology, migration, and behavior of fishes.
Derk DeKoevend – Construction Manager and Master Builder: Derk is
our premier builder of fishery improvements. He has over 30 years experience
performing construction, reclamation, and enhancement projects in
natural environments. Derk’s expertise as an operator and construction site
experience provide responsible on-site project management that ensures
protection of client property assets, quality workmanship, budget and
schedule management, and a safe work environment. His construction techniques
on rivers and lakes has created many happy fish and anglers that are
even happier.
