Crappie can be found around or in the numerous brush piles that the Army Corp of Engineers put in or anglers who are making their own personal crappie fishing honey hole. To be successful fishing for crappie an angler has to know where these brush piles are, or make their own brush piles or know that they are up on the bank spawning in buckbrush. Another option is to hire a guide to take you fishing for crappie. A crappie fishing guide can put you on fish quick and even cleans your catch. Striper Fever on Lake Ouachita in Arkansas

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Big stripers can be caught on Lake Ouachita in Arkansas. In the photo Lake Ouachita fishing guide Chris Darby and holding the striper Captain Patrick J. KalmertonInland stripers are often referred to as fresh water tarpon due to their sheer strength and enormous size. These brutes can grow up over 60 pounds; in fact, the state record in Arkansas weighed 64-8 pounds and was 51-inches long with a girth of 31½-inchesThat’s a monster striper in any reservoir or ocean. It’s truly rewarding to catch one of these silver sided, but not every reservoir in Arkansas has striped bass. The list of premier striper lakes would include Norfork Lake, Beaver Lake, Lake Ouachita, and Lake Greeson right now; Lake Ouachita seems to be the hot spot with anglers regularly hooking in to big stripers. Fishing guides and weekend anglers often use live shad or big shiners, but Lake Ouachita fishing guide Chris Darby chases after stripers using only artificial lures. It’s more challenging, but more rewarding as clients hook into a monster striper.

Scenic Lilleys’ Landing Resort & Marina on Lake Taneycomo

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Captain_Steve_Dickey_Angers_Advantage_1_057_-_Copy_320x200It’s quiet. So peaceful it allows you to gather your thoughts for the day. Only the occasional blue heron squalling breaks the silence to bring you back to reality as you frantically search for your strike indicator. It’s under so you quickly set the hook with a snap of your wrist. Seconds later a trophy size brown trout begins a series of grand leaps then dives downwards pulling hard and tugging. The battle continues until the giant trout is subdued and netted then released. It’s another scenic day out on Lake Taneycomo and you are enjoying every moment, but the sun setting means it’s time to go back to the landing. Unlike some of the other anglers on Lake Taneycomo who are staying in motels you elected to stay at Lilleys’ Landing. Lilleys’ Landing is renowned for its hospitality and catering to anglers every need.

Trout fishing with Anglers Advantage on Lake Taneycomo

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Captain Steve Dickey with Anglers Advantage guide service Its show time up in Branson, Missouri and the stars of the show have definitely come out to impress us. Like most shows, the stars are well known to everyone who has come to see and catch their performance. You would think that they would get tired of showing off, but to them it’s an everyday event. If all things go according to plan, I will get my picture taken with not just one, but a number of them although it can be tough to photograph everyone that you see. The plan was to catch the early show before the crowd shows up. So, we started at day break. Our guide for the show was Steve Dickey. He arrived promptly at daybreak and we jumped into the boat heading up the lake towards our destination. Once he found the right spot, we stopped and made our presence known by casting small trinkets to lure them out. Within minutes they began to show themselves and finally the first star of the day was hooked. Unfortunately, it was a little shy. Maybe it was too early and he tried diving out of sight even jumping upwards to get away, but all in vain as it was subdued until netted. Once aboard, I stood proudly next to the star of Lake Taneycomo…a large rainbow trout. After a couple photos, the rainbow was released back in to the crystal clear waters of Lake Taneycomo.

Trout Bliss at Bennett Spring State Park

    Author: Brad Wiegmann

Bennett Spring State Park is a heaven for fly anglers!Every morning I wake up and can feel the cool breeze blowing from off the spring below me. It’s the kind of cool that gives you a boost of energy and refreshed for the day. The hustle and bustle of anglers scurrying about everywhere is a key that something exciting is about to happen. “Did you get your tag yet?” he asked. “Not, yet; I have to run by the store and get mine before 7:30,” I responded. After acquiring my trout tag I search around for a likely spot that some of the bigger, cleverer trout maybe hanging out waiting for an easy morning snack. My first step into the river is cool, but welcomed since my waders were making me sweat. I position myself downstream from a shoal with boulders breaking the river current. I’m 30 yards from any other angler. Perfect, I think to myself. A few other fly fishermen show up as I’m standing there, but they all keep more than casting distance away from each other. Anticipation is killing me; I can’t wait for that first cast and fish then it happens. The horn blows loudly bouncing off the towering bluff wall beside me. I quickly strip out some fly line and make the first cast. The line gently glides through the air before coming down in a perfect line. My fly quietly sits down without a sound or ripple. Within a second of it hitting the surface, I have a full grown trout thrusting upwards jumping towards the clouds above.
