    Graduating to Greater Competition

    Author: Spencer Clark |

Spencer ClarkAfter graduating from Truman State University with my Bachelor's of Science degree in biology I moved to Lake of the Ozarks last month to pursue a career in professional fishing. Since having made the move to the Lake I have been able to spend way more time on the water fishing and competing against some of the best competition the area has to offer.

I'm currently averaging about 3 to 4 days a week on the water and it's crazy how much the fish can change from day to day.

It has been a blessing to be able to spend so much time on the water lately and live in an area with a booming tournament fishing scene. If you want to be a movie star you go to Hollywood. If you want to become a professional angler you better head to an area where there is a large tournament scene.

I have been competing in the Wednesday Night Tournaments on a weekly basis which usually draws anywhere from 30 to 50 boats and the best tournament anglers that the lake has to offer. The tournaments are 3.5 hours long and run from 6:30 pm till 10 pm. The teams that fish the Wednesday Night Tournaments consist of the guys that you will often see at the top of the leader board of the Pro-Ams that come to the lake.

While It didn't take too long to win one of the Wednesday Night Tournaments and big bass the past couple of weeks I have just made one or two bad decisions which has resulted in coming up just short of cashing a check or winning. In order to win against the best anglers on the lake in a 3.5 hour tournament you have to perform and execute. The 3.5 hour tournaments will teach you to manage your time better and make better decisions.

I'm learning a lot about finding fish and catching them. Only time will tell what happens with my fishing career. All I can do is work hard and try my best.
