Truman State 2nd at Lake Ouachita

    Author: Spencer Clark

This past weekend we headed down to Lake Ouachita for the FLW National Guard College Fishing Regional Qualifier and we placed 2nd out of 40 teams.  The finish earned our Bass Club 2,500 dollars and our school another 2,500 dollars as well as double qualifying us for a birth to the National Guard College Fishing Regional Championship. We brought 5 fish to the scales that weighed in at 13lbs 4 oz to fall short of first place by less than a pound. It was so hard to come so close to winning the tournament when the winning fish was on the line numerous times throughout the tournament.

    Jerkbaiting for Bass
Well I spent a bit of time on Lake of the Ozarks over the past two weeks and while I struggled with getting onto the right kind of fish for my tournaments I feel that I learned a little more about jerkbait fishing. Jerkbait fishing has never been one of my strengths. It’s something that I’ve messed with but I haven’t mastered. It’s a technique that I am hoping to continue to improve upon and I hope to someday become skilled with a jerkbait. Here are a couple of tips that I would like to share though about my experience of playing with the jerkbait over the past two weeks.

Hi my names Darren Evans and I am living in "High School Days". I reside in Southwest Missouri.  I am truly living in the life of a fisherman. I am a senior at Willard High School, knowing that I am graduating in two months I am working towards a fishing career. Whether I fish local or national; I know this is God's gift to me. I have been fishing with my father ever since I can remember. When the time comes to fish I am there. I got started in a local bass club when in turned 16 and now starting my third year.

Day on the Lake with Mizzou's Dooley and Truman State's Clark

    Author: Spencer Clark

Just like other college sports, college bass fishing has it's rivalries. Over the past year or so since Mizzou University started up a bass club they have become one of Truman State's biggest rivals.  At Truman State we are always looking to beat everyone but there is certain satisfaction that comes from being able to beat the kids from Mizzou. Over the past year or so I've gotten to know Mizzou's Scott Dooley but we've never fished together. On this April fool's day we both decided at the drop of the hat to skip class and head out on Thomas Hill Reservoir to try and load the boat with some big ol' bass. The weather was perfect, air temps in the 80's with plenty of sunshine and some wind. Things were just setting up to have an awesome day.

Truman State University Finishes in 5th Place at Bull Shoals

    Author: Spencer Clark

Truman State University collegiate angler Spencer ClarkThis past weekend we kicked off the College Fishing season with Placing 5th out of 40 teams at the National Guard College Fishing Regional Qualifier at Bull Shoals Lake. The finish earned our Bass Club 1,000 dollars and our school another 1,000 as well as a birth to the National Guard College Fishing Regional Championship. We only weighed in two keepers that edged out the 6th place team by .01lbs. I don’t know whether to say that we were lucky or unlucky because our motor blew up after just 2 and a half hours of fishing which left us unable to run our pattern. I believe that we could have caught a couple more keepers if we had gotten to fish another 3 hours. We spent the last 3 hours of the day getting towed back to K Dock Marina. I am almost certain we could have won the tournament.
