Bass: The Movie A Movie by Jamie Howard
This is what it is all about… fly versus artificial, fly line against braid; the art of casting in rhythmic movements to deliver a fly gently on the surface of the water compare to power fishing with a heavy action fishing rod and high speed reel making pin-point accurate casts. Which angler, the fly fisherman or the professional bass angler can catch more and bigger bass? In the beginning, the premise of Bass: The Movie was to be a challenge between the two types of anglers. In the end, it became angler versus the bass. Who would be able to conquer the other? Largemouth Bass had the home field advantage and utilized acrobatic jumps to dislodge any fly or soft plastic lure stuck in its mouth or dive deep in to heavy cover to escape. The fly fishermen and the professional bass anglers used precise cast to place a fly or lure in the bass’ home, enticing, maybe aggravating them in to striking.
Bass fishing brings these two different fishing cultures together to achieve one goal. To catch bass, big bass, no matter what type tackle they are using. Bass: The Movie is the road trip of all road trips taking the viewer from George Perry’s world-record bass in 1930’s in rural Georgia to bass fishing today. Along the way, you’ll find out how the state of California became home of the majority of bass fishing’s world records and possible the next world record.
Anglers that you will meet along the trip are line-class world record holder Raymond Easley, Fly-rod world-record holder Larry Kurosaki, Delta fishing guide and professional angler Bobby Barrack, Delta fly-rod pro and guide Kevin Doran, Southern California professional angler and guide Mark Mitrany. In addition to fly fishing pro John Sherman, who shares the water and comradely with all of them listed above. Sherman’s fly fishing skills and determination can hardly be matched, but fishing out in California reservoirs creates a
challenge. So, he turns to the anglers above to teach and mentor him.
Bass: The Movie comes in a 2-disc DVD set. Disc one is the movie while Disc two includes a retrospective interview with the legendary Bill Dance, Bobby Barrack Flippin’ Demo, Bobby Barrack Delta Frog History, Bassmaster Elite Series weigh-in backstage, Kevin Doran Big Fish at Dawn, Mikey Weir DIY Bass, Mark Mitrany Seeing-eye Bass, and Larry Kurosaki The Wardrobe.
Bass: The Movie is not about fly fishing or casting plastic frogs on top of matted aquatic vegetation in the California Delta. Bass: The Movie captures the true spirit of angling and the anglers who chase after the next world record largemouth bass. Once you watch it, you’ll be hooked for life.
