Here comes the sun, do, do, do, do. Here comes the sun and I say, “It’s all right.” Here comes the sun and I am not worried about that big, round ball of fire. Why not? I have found the perfect protection from Mother Nature and its harmful rays. No, it’s not staying inside dodging dangerous solar ultraviolet radiation. It’s my new Boonie Hat by Glacier Outdoors that is the source of my face, ears, and top of my balding head salvation. It kicks the sun’s butt and eliminates the sun’s harmful rays while providing me with a comfortable, fashionable look.
For years, healthcare professionals have been telling us to protect ourselves from overexposing our skin to harmful UVB radiation. Getting sunburned once is not going to kill you or will not cause any long term negative effects; however, repeated or prolonged exposure can cause a number of forms of skin cancer. While some exposure may result in chronic or acute negative health condition, individuals could end up with malignant melanoma that has extreme negative consequences.
For anyone who works or loves to play in the outdoors, sun protection is important. So, we put on sun screen and try to keep our exposure to harmful rays to a minimum. Another way is to wear clothing that guards us from the sun’s rays, but not all clothing is created equally when it comes to protection. A number of factors influences how well it can protect those that are wearing it including the age of the clothing, its color, and how the material used is weaved. Clothing and hats designed for providing protection from the sun will have a Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) rating. This rating lets the consumer know exactly how much sun will penetrate the fabric. Garments or hats rated at UPF 50 only lets 1/50th or 2-percent of the sun’s rays to penetrate the fabric. For apparel to be labeled sun protective it must have a rating of 15 UPF. The Skin Cancer Foundation strongly recommends garments or hats with a rating of 30+, but would consider 50+ best.
My Boonie Hat is just one of the sun protection products that Glacier Outdoors (http://www.glacieroutdoor.com/) makes. This hat is a 50+ UPF rating, lightweight, and packable. For windy days, the Boonie Hat has a chin strap to keep it on your head. Another great feature is the removable Universal Shade. The Universal Shade attaches to the Boonie Hat and provides extra shade for the back of the neck and ears; in addition to being extremely comfortable and lightweight. It also has a dark under-bill to prevent glare and is built from nylon taslan material that dries quickly.
I love the fact you can roll it up, stick it in your pocket or in a storage compartment in the boat at the end of the day. The Boonie Hat comes in one size that will fit almost any person including people like me with a small head. Here comes the sun. No need to worry about those harmful UVB rays. Here comes the sun; here comes the sun and I say, “It’s all right; it’s all right; it will be alright with my Boonie Hat on.”
